Contributed Article in Hokuryukan's 'Monthly Cell (THE CELL)' June 2026 Issue — General-Purpose Humanoid Robot LabDroid 'Mahoro'
Yosuke Ozawa, CEO of Epistra Inc., contributed an article on the general-purpose humanoid robot LabDroid “Mahoro” to the Technical Lecture section of Monthly Cell (THE CELL) June 2026 issue, published by Hokuryukan on May 22, 2026. The article was co-authored with Dr. Kenji Matsukuma, President of Robotic Biology Institute Inc., and Mr. Atsushi Inoue, General Manager of the Digital Process Innovation Division at Cellfa Bioscience Inc.
“LabDroid Mahoro” is a general-purpose humanoid robot capable of operating existing laboratory instruments through coordinated dual-arm movements. The article outlines the value that Mahoro delivers through “automation, optimization, and sharing,” and includes a case study combining the robot with Epistra’s experimental condition optimization AI “Epistra Accelerate,” which achieved a halving of culture duration and a substantial improvement in NK cell yield in an NK cell differentiation process. The article also emphasizes that the key to unlocking AI performance lies in acquiring high-quality data through robotics. Please refer to the journal for full details.
The same issue’s Industrial Info section features a co-authored article by our CTO Taku Tsuzuki and CEO Ozawa titled “AI-Robot-Driven Cell Medicine Development” (→ AI-Robot-Driven Cell Medicine Development).
Monthly Cell (THE CELL) June 2026 issue is A4 format, 70 pages, priced at ¥2,900 (excluding tax). For details, see the Hokuryukan book listing page.
