As generative AI rapidly becomes widespread, interest in how to leverage AI in research settings has grown considerably. This seminar was organized as an opportunity to address that question from a practical standpoint.
Presentation Content
The session began by reflecting on how generative AI is transforming research practices. Discussion covered how to interpret measured data and how to design and validate experiments in line with research objectives. Participants shared perspectives on framing research themes, making effective use of data, and practical approaches to working with AI.
The seminar featured Dr. Jun Sese, President of Humanome Lab, Inc., as lecturer, alongside guest presenters Mr. Shimpei Ogawa, CEO of AMI Inc., and our CEO Ozawa.
Epistra has engaged in numerous collaborative research projects with pharmaceutical and biotech companies. In joint development with Astellas Pharma Inc., the team achieved yields of iPSC-derived NK cells 50–100 times higher than reported literature values by combining mathematical optimization with AI in bioprocess development. Drawing on this experience of designing research from measured data, Ozawa shared practical perspectives on integrating AI into R&D.
