Epistra and Evident Co-develop a New AI-powered Microscopy Experience
Launch of the Next-generation Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope FLUOVIEW FV5000 with AI-assisted Software FLUOVIEW Smart
Epistra Inc. and Evident Corporation jointly designed and developed an AI object search system that significantly reduces the effort required for microscope operation.
This system is incorporated into FLUOVIEW Smart, an AI-powered software that assists users with microscope operation. The next-generation confocal and multiphoton laser scanning microscope FLUOVIEW FV5000, equipped with this software, was launched by Evident on October 29, 2025.
Background and Objectives
Confocal laser scanning microscopes are fundamental tools in life science research, enabling high-resolution observation of fine structures in cells and tissues and their three-dimensional analysis.
In recent years, as research has become more sophisticated and observation techniques have advanced, confocal microscopes have gained increasingly diverse functions, greatly expanding the flexibility of imaging conditions. However, with this expansion of capabilities, software interfaces have become more complex, and challenges have emerged — particularly for novice users — such as time-consuming setup and operation and increased susceptibility to operational errors.
To address these challenges, both companies carried out joint development aimed at creating an environment where users of all experience levels can perform observations smoothly, through simplified software interfaces and the application of AI technology. By combining Epistra’s expertise in mathematical optimization and image analysis with Evident’s optical design technology, the AI-powered software FLUOVIEW Smart was created, enabling “anyone to acquire high-quality images quickly and intuitively.”
What is FLUOVIEW Smart?
FLUOVIEW Smart is an AI-assisted software built into Evident’s next-generation confocal laser scanning microscope FLUOVIEW FV5000. It was developed to optimize the user’s observation workflow and significantly streamline the entire process from imaging preparation to image acquisition.
The software uses AI to automatically detect the position and structure of specimens, accurately identify the observation target, and optimize laser power and imaging conditions. This enables the startup and adjustment process — which previously took several minutes — to be completed with a single click in under one minute. Novice users can obtain high-quality images without confusion, while experienced users benefit from improved work efficiency and enhanced reproducibility of imaging conditions.
Epistra developed the core AI object search system for FLUOVIEW Smart. This system automatically detects specimen regions from low-magnification images and supports the process of switching to high magnification for detailed imaging. This enables a workflow that delivers consistent observation results regardless of the user’s experience or skill level.
Additionally, this system incorporates Epistra’s proprietary condition optimization AI, Epistra Accelerate. This enables automatic optimization of imaging conditions such as laser power, allowing stable acquisition of high-quality images.
Born from the fusion of Epistra’s AI analysis technology and Evident’s optical technology, FLUOVIEW Smart transforms the confocal microscope operating experience into something more intuitive and seamless, proposing a new standard for research environments.
